As part of our final year assessment for GT30203-International Corporate Finance at University Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus, we created the high-impact crowdfunding project "Little Stars, Big Dreams". Beyond only raising money, the goal of this project is to significantly improve the lives of the kids at Tabika Kemas Kg. Sungai Lada, a working-class kindergarten in Labuan.
OUR MISSION:
Our goal is also to create an atmosphere where every child feels appreciated, motivated, and encouraged to dream big, regardless of their present circumstances. With a crowdfunding target of RM3,500, our mission is to upgrade their basic educational facilities by providing child-friendly ergonomic furniture, digital learning tools like a desktop computer and projector, and clean water access through a new water filter dispenser.
THE PEOPLE WE SERVE :
This project aims to transform the learning environment of 18 children at Tabika Kemas Kampung Sungai Lada, Labuan — a modest kindergarten serving mainly B40 (low-income) families.
1) To Enhance Public Understanding and Awareness of Crowdfunding
Jawatankuasa Pembangunan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JPKK) Sungai Lada
Official community collaborator, supporting project implementation, outreach, and sustainability.
Mr Gilbert Julian
Pegawai KEMAS Daerah, KEMAS W.P. Labuan – Community liaison and advisor.
Dr Suzillah Binti Sidek
Project Coordinator and Senior Lecturer, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (Labuan International Campus).
Together, these collaborators ensure the project remains impactful, transparent, and aligned with local educational needs.
OUR TEAM MEMBERS:
“Little Stars, Big Dreams” is led by a team of 8 dedicated final-year students from the International Finance and Offshore Banking programme at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus. With a strong foundation in corporate finance and a shared commitment to social responsibility, our team combines academic knowledge with practical leadership to drive meaningful community impact.
Educational & Infrastructure Support: RM2,690
• Playground Fixing
• Water Filter Dispenser
• Computer Set
• Tables (18 units)
• Chairs (18 units)
• Projector & Screen
Total Rewards & Logistics: RM180
• Rewards for Donors
• Transportation
Our campaign is more than just about infrastructure; it is about nurturing confidence, creativity, and joy in these children by giving them a classroom they can be proud of. By creating a safe and stimulating space, we hope to empower these little stars to dream big and achieve brighter futures.
Low Crowdfunding Response
There is a risk of not reaching our RM3,500 target due to limited public awareness. To overcome this, we are launching a multi-platform digital marketing campaign and collaborating with local influencers to drive donor engagement. Plus, our flexible funding model ensures that even partial funds will still be used effectively for top-priority needs like furniture and clean water.
Procurement and Delivery Delays
Sourcing educational equipment and furniture from local suppliers could face delays. We are mitigating this by partnering only with reliable vendors with guaranteed delivery timelines and maintaining backup suppliers as contingency.
Unexpected Expenses
Cost fluctuations and unforeseen expenses are a moderate risk. To handle this, our budget includes a contingency buffer, and real-time cost monitoring will be done to adjust purchases based on available funds.
Maintaining Donor Trust
Donor accountability is crucial for sustaining support. We are committed to providing regular campaign updates, transparent financial breakdowns, and impact reports with photos and testimonials.
Sustaining Community Participation
After initial excitement, community involvement may decrease. To prevent this, we are establishing a "Community Support Taskforce" led by JPKK Sungai Lada to keep parents and local volunteers engaged through feedback sessions and volunteer activities.

We are final-year students from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus, currently enrolled in the Corporate Finance course subject. As part of our course assessment, we are participating in a SULAM (Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society) project, a national initiative that integrates academic learning with structured community engagement. SULAM is designed to foster civic responsibility and holistic development by combining classroom knowledge with real-world application. It encourages students to contribute meaningfully to society through organised, service-orientated activities that address local community needs. In line with this, our project involves a student-led crowdfunding campaign aimed at supporting a rural kindergarten in Labuan. This initiative not only allows us to apply financial and project management skills in a practical setting but also empowers us to make a tangible difference in the lives of underserved children.
Donators who donate RM 10.00 and above will receive an E-Certificate
Donators who donate RM 50.00 and above will receive a mini pocket calendar.
Donators who donate RM 150.00 and above will receive a mini glass bottle.
