The project is a contribution by PRO-NUR group to the Service-Learning Malaysia (SULAM) programme at the institutional level where students were provided with the chance to contribute and engage in direct community service. The project entails the fixing of solar lights at the Taman Layangan Islamic Cemetery, Labuan. The project will increase lighting, safety and convenience for visitors especially if they go there in the evening or at dawn. Taman Layangan Muslim Cemetery, or Tanah Perkuburan Islam Tanjung Layang-Layangan, is a primary Muslim cemetery in Labuan. Situated in the village of Layang-Layangan, the cemetery is convenient for the Muslim populace in the area and is frequented by family members to offer their respects to their departed loved ones. On Friday, 18 April 2025, our group went for a visit to the cemetery to evaluate the current conditions of the cemetery. From what we have observed, there are only four solar lights fitted along the cemetery stretch. The current lights are not enough to enable effective lighting, particularly for night visits, which is also a factor in the safety of the visitors. Additionally, the absence of adequate lighting is an issue for the elderly and others to move about safely, particularly during religious activities like tahlil or ziarah kubur. Therefore, this project proposes the installation of more solar-powered light units to further enhance the visibility and safety of the area. By offering a green technology lighting solution, we aim to create an even safer and more inviting area for all visitors, while encouraging the use of green technology in public areas. In coordination with the people of the locality, we will be conducting a community clean-up drive in addition to the installation. This two-fold activity successfully functions to both instill civic and spiritual values in the students and further strengthen the bond between the university and the community.

Bright Minds Corner – Empowering 3M at SK Bebuloh is a service-learning initiative by UMS students aimed at uplifting remedial (Kelas Pemulihan) students in a rural primary school. Many of these students struggle with foundational 3M skills—reading, writing, and arithmetic—due to limited resources and an uninspiring classroom environment. This project seeks to transform their learning space into a vibrant, engaging, and supportive corner filled with educational tools, creative murals, and cozy reading areas. Funded through crowdfunding, the initiative also promotes values of empathy, collaboration, and equal access to quality education, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
