The theme Young, Wild & Free. Ideas behind the theme revolve around the fact that everyone is young at heart, no matter how old they are. The spirit of being young allows new heights to be reached, and that is reflected in the presenters of this Tedx event. They are wild in terms of doing things that aren't of the norm. They are free from restrictions within the border lines, aren't limited to only being and thinking within the box, and do things that aren't done by everyone around.
The theme allows speakers to share ideas surrounding facts and situations that they have been through or have learnt throughout their lives. Freedom is within us, yet we are so commonly bounded by our realities. Our differences and our limitations create a barrier towards our passion and thoughts. Young, Wild and Free touches into the ideas of breaking the barriers and venturing out for greater possibilities. Age shall never be a limit to our freedom to decide what we can do to make a difference. Be young, be wild and be free!
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations)
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to 'Ideas Worth Spreading'. Started in 1984 as a four-day conference in California, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world's leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives within 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Sir Richard Branson, Elizabeth Gilbert, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.
TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily; the new TED Conversations, enabling broad conversations among TED fans; and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.
TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
We have invited 10 presenters from a diverse background to spread their ideas and inspire the youths. Just to name a few are
Yulina ( Biker )
Most would never expect a lady to be able to handle a motorcycle. Yulina has been riding for 4 years now and has had her fair share of crashes. She advocates safety riding as well as learning to live. In the past couple of years, she discovered meaning through track training and touring with motorcycles and feels fortunate to have found her ardent hobby in motorsports. Learning to ride however is still an ongoing process for her. Attempting to defy stigmas is another. Whilst people yearn for relationship goals, she pursues riding goals. Her resilience rarely recognizes when to quit. And though she might fall often, she never surrenders.
Blake Yap Jun Ming ( YouTuber, Filmmaker, Entertainer. )
An ambitious city boy who has always been a natural when it comes to performing. He found interest in rewriting lyrics, contributing vocals, as well as editing, directing video concepts with zero budget and no equipment. Since he joined YouTube in 2009, he has managed to rack up over 650,000 views on his channel. Some may know him as Vetri or #Chinepaiyen which is his Tamil alter-ego for his Tamil based content.
Blake ventured to establish 'Blaqurium Productions' to make more covers of music videos on his YouTube Channel. Pursuing his passion as an Entertainer in the broadcasting world, he’s been working at Astro for 3 years whilst running Blaqurium Productions.
Ruby Subramaniam ( Artist )
Thavarupani or Ruby Subramaniam as friends know her, is a self-taught artist who quit her seven year career in digital media to pursue her passion in arts. She finds her inspiration by getting lost in the world (quite literally) when she goes solo-backpacking. To date, she has been to twenty countries and more than 40 cities across the world. She believes travelling challenges her sense of identity and she records this process by painting and writing. She hopes to discuss philosophical ideas in a palatable form for the contemporary audience with her work and raise questions about society, culture and the idea of self.
Yusuf Preece ( Entrepreneur )
At only 22, Preece has managed to acquire a café and properly launched his business, Hobo Shack, while studying food and restaurant management. He was exposed to the F&B industry from a young age as he had to help run his family’s business, which gave him some experience and an insight to the business world of the F&B industry. His dream of opening up a food truck is coming to life this September.
Danish Harraz ( Baker, Entrepreneur )
Known as Abang Danish to his followers on Instagram, Harraz is an inspiring idol. At only 9 years old, he has a following of almost 40,000 on his Instagram page. His interest bloomed when he was 4, his passion came at 5 and he started baking and cooking at 6. Armed with knowledge gained from YouTube, websites and apps, he shares his recipes in hopes that everyone will be inspired and will try the recipes themselves. He runs his own baking and cooking business online, catering the demand of his followers. He is also active in the local charity scene and some of the profits from his business are donated to orphanages and the needy. He is a member of the NGO “Need to Feed the Need” (NFN). His dream is to open his own cafe in the future.
INTI INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE KUALA LUMPUR is a small campus located in the heart of the city. The college is also located in Menara KH but INTI rented only 3 floor, which means not we have limited facilities, unlike any other college. The struggle that we face is basically venue. To celebrate 30 anniversary for inti college, all sister campus taking turns to organize TEDx event. Our sister campus is huge and they have their own auditorium which can contain more than 200 people. Although INTI KL has an auditorium, but it can only fit 80 people. This lead us to search for a venue outside of our own campus. The venue around KL cost a lot and sister campuses can reduce a lot of cost by using their own auditorium. Also, not forget about other expenses as well.
