Tapi art installation project by Artsemble
Based in Kuala Lumpur, Artsemble is a unique group of artists and specialists that come from diversified art backgrounds including fine art, graphic design, digital media, animation and arts education. Working together as a team and through our passion in arts we wish to bring difference to the art scene in Malaysia. We aim to promote local arts, design and culture, and bring understanding of art to wider audience. We seek to collaborate and experiment arts from different disciplinary internally and externally, between our own members and with others. We hope to promote peace and bring happiness to different communities through art and charitable projects.
Most Artsemble's artistic activities are voluntary based and non-profitable. Last year was the starting point of our organisation and we kicked started with an art project called "Tapi Project", which aimed to help bring awareness to the public about the Malayan Tapirs. There is no reliable statistic on how many Malayan Tapirs are left in the world today mainly due to lacked of funding to support Tapirs research and conservation programmes. Unofficial statistic suggested that they are only around 3,000 Malayan Tapirs are left in the world and about 200 in zoos around the world, therefore they are being considered as an endangered species.
“Tapi project” aims to go to different schools to conduct art workshops with the children and during the workshop we will do a presentation about Tapirs and another about contemporary art. Our session ends with a workshop teaching them how to sculpt a tapir using clay and their tapir sculptures are fired and contribute to our art installation that will be shown in World Tapirs Day in April, 2015. This year Penang Pac is organising an event for World Tapir Day in April and it is expected that thousands of people will come to visit the event and experience our installation. We hope that we are able to accumulate around 3,000 little tapir sculptures produced by the school children for our installation which represents the amount of Malayan Tapirs still left in the world today.
We hope to create as much awareness as possible about the endangered Malayan Tapirs through our workshop and exhibition, we also wish to tour our installation after the World Tapirs Day 2015 exhibition. Of course without any financial support it will be very difficult for us to achieve this large scale project. It would be very grateful if you could kindly support us which will help to preserve the Malayan Tapirs for our generations to come. Your financial support can help us to:
1. Purchase clay and sculpting tools for the tapir workshops
2. Firing the clay tapir sculptures
3. Cover all transportation cost
4. Buy materials to set up the exhibition in World Tapirs Day
We would also welcome materials and facility supports such as:
1. Clay (250kg)
2. Facilities for firing the clay tapir sculptures
