What are we planning to do?
On the 20th of May 2017, the team will be heading to Klang to distribute foods and some daily items to about 90 homeless individuals in that area. This event will be done in collaboration with the Leo Club of Sungai Buloh. To do this, your help is much needed. All the funds will go into purchasing foods and basic needs for the homeless community. The more fund received, the more can be provided to them. The more support we receive, the more love we can provide.
Why are we doing this?
‘Home’, a simple word but to everyone, it has a different definition and different memories. To some of us, it means love, warm, family. To some of us, it means work, responsibilities, duties. But what about those that don’t get to have a memory of ‘home’? It becomes more than a word, it becomes a dream, a target, an escape. A homeless person is defined as an individual that is not capable of maintaining a regular and safe shelter, and live by the streets without the essentials of life. Statistics show that the number of homeless in Kuala Lumpur alone increased three-fold from the year 2014 to the year 2015 and situations are worse in the less-developed state. These people spend every day not knowing what is going to happen the next day, and not knowing whether they will get to sleep peacefully every night. They spend each cold night on a bench at a random street, or under a bridge where nobody will know what happens to you. The reason behind this increment is due to various reasons such as low wages, unemployment, domestic violence, addictions and many more.
In the society, many knows about homeless but very little actually understands their poor living condition as well as the seriousness of homelessness. Many wants to help but feel like they could not be much help. Imagine feeling lost and not having idea of where to go or what to do, you will be extremely grateful if someone can give you a simple direction under that situation. A little help from each of us could means the world to them and help them by at least assuring that they do not have to worry about not being able to have dinner. By giving them a little help and assurance, not only are we just buying dinner for them, but also sending love and support to them, letting them knows that we are here to help, and to care for them.
Our team, consisting of several students from Taylor’s University wants to do our part in the society and help transfer the love and support to them.
How are we helping?
90 packs of rice will be prepared for the homeless community and each pack of rice cost RM4.00. The rest of the fund will be used to purchase other basic need items such as clothes, toothpastes and toothbrushes.
The challenge would be to raise the complete amount of fund within the timeframe as the dateline is two weeks from the day our crowdfunding begins.
