This project consists of 3 programs: Special Education Week, Survival Camp and Career Visits. Special Education Week will be a 4-day event. An activity is planned each day. 1st day is film screening and reviewing about disabilities; 2nd day will be an introductory activities to survival camp, 3rd and 4th day will be game day - petanque and traditional game. Second program is camping. We shall bring our SWDs and a few regular students to a camp outside of school. The camp will be conducted and monitored by qualified instructor. Career visits involve visiting to factories and community colleges. The purpose is to introduce types of career available, and qualifications needed for the career. All programs are for SWDs and regular students in the school. Hopefully, friendship and understanding are formed, a sense of belonging and self esteem may be boosted. In the long run, we hope a true inclusive community is a thing of norm. No more segregation, no more fear and no more frustration. And all 75 SWDs, and15 SPED teachers are treated fairly, able to voice out and led a meaningful life.
Expenses
Special Education Week RM1000.00 (for equipments, prizes, souvenirs and food)
Survival Camp RM6000.00 (RM150 x 40 students)
Career Visits RM1000.00 (RM15 x 70 students)
We expect lots of challenges, from the SWDs and also regular students and teachers. We have seen fear and apprehension of the regular students, and even teachers. We reach out but may be a few only will accept our invitation. We might have less number of participants for the camp due to the overprotectiveness of SWDs parents, and the regular students might feel embarassing joining with our SWDs. Due to these reasons, the camping might be called off.

I am a special education teacher for students with learning disabilities (SWDs). With 15 years of experience in government schools and NGOs, I have met and taught a lot of talented and amazing special needs students. I tutored SWDs who will sit for public examination such as PT3 and SPM too. I believe SWDs need a variety of method of instruction and activities in order for them to learn and identify their strengths and weaknesses. I am also involved in post-school career transition program for special needs students.
A photobook with selected pictures and images from all the activivities we have carried out. And an appreciation letter.
