The Look Por... See More
1. 积累马登-十八丁的自然人文,地理与历史文化的资产,并把它的色彩让人‘看见’;
2. 凝聚社区居民的力量,激发他们保存与维护文化资产之意识与行动;
3. 带领孩子们参与以自然与人文环境为题的活动,通过艺术及活泼的活动促进他们对家乡的认识与关怀;
Kuala Sepetang, a fishing village of over 100 years, though with a small population of 5000, enjoys a dense mass of mangroves and has a wide variety of traditional trades like charcoal production and boat building. In addition, with its rich array of seafood and savory delicacies, Kuala Sepetang is also a gastronomic paradise for foodies. It is a unique fishing village abounds with natural and cultural attractions. But how do future generations of Kuala Sepetang perceive their village and its future?
The “Look Port Weld Kuala Sepetang Community Art Carnival” hopes to unveil the beauty of Kuala Sepetang's natural, landscape and heritage. Through this project, people will discover the colours and splendours of Kuala Sepetang. It will serve as a catalyst to inject new spirit to the village, enabling villagers to take pride in their community. This project is supported by Kuala Sepetang State Assemblywoman YB Chua Yee Ling and co-organised by Kelab Pemuda Kuala Sepetang, Persatuan Penganut Dato dan Seah Tee Kong (Baru) Kuala Sepetang, Perak and Persatuan Penganut Dewa Tai Seong Lau Kuen Kuala Sepetang.
The objectives
1. To bring together the natural, cultural, geographical and historical heritage of Kuala Sepetang for people to discover its colours and splendours.
2. To unite the villagers and promote awareness of protecting and preserving cultural heritage in Kuala Sepetang.
3. To encourage children to participate in cultural and nature-themed activities in order to cultivate deeper understanding and caring attitude towards their hometown.
4. To preserve ecological and cultural heritage of Kuala Sepetang for long-term sustainability.
Look Port Weld, Kuala Sepetang Community Art Carnival committee has been organizing various activities, such as “Know My Home Kids Holiday Camp”, Exploring Mangroves Forest Family Camp “ and “Symposium: Conservation of Historical and Natural Heritage in Taiping-Matang-Kuala Sepetang”. All these aim at raising awareness among the villagers, especially youths and children, to galvanize interest, love and enthusiasm for their village.
Some parents planned to send their children to schools at nearby city especially in Taiping. This is because urban schools have better facilities and resources. Their children can learn more things and will be well prepared for the future. However, these parents are also in a dilemma because it means their children have to sacrifice their happy childhood in Kuala Sepetang.
We’ve been looking for ways to break this perception. In fact, urban schools are not necessary better than rural schools. Studying in rural areas can also be interesting. So, ensuring that rural children can enjoy the same opportunity as urban children has become something that we've wanted to do all this while. Therefore, we have come up with this idea to provide Kuala Sepetang children with an avenue to expose themselves to aesthetic education where art, creativity and imagination can be used to develop their learning potential.
The highlight of the carnival is “I Love My Home: Students’ Creative Camp” in coming October. The committee invites 10 artists from various fields, including percussion, drama, dance and visual arts, to stay in the village. These fine art artists will be leading the primary school students and villagers to create a series of creative works based on their daily lives. All the completed artworks will be exhibited for public viewing.
This project will be the first of its kind in Kuala Sepetang. Through this meaningful activity, we hope to let art make inroads into the community and broaden the perspective of local residents. The villagers will also have the opportunity to learn more about art so that they can see art in a new light.
Your donation will make all these possible. It will breathe new life into this fishing village so that it will not disappear in the era of rapid urbanization. Instead, through a unique art and nature education, Kuala Sepetang will transform into a beautiful, mesmerizing and wholesome place to live.

Due to its remote location, Kuala Sepetang villagers are hardly exposed to arts. They might not show enthusiasm towards this novel initiative. However, it is our hope that the children of Kuala Sepetang will be given the opportunity to learn arts and elevate their humanistic literacy.
We welcome and appreciate contribution of any sort. A sponsorship of RM200 will enable a child of Kuala Sepetang to widen his or her perspective, like his or her peers in the cities. As a token of appreciation, the children will express their gratitude towards their sponsors in a creative way at the end of the camp.
