ABOUT THE PROJECT

Rarely do we see local short films in TV or cinemas or mainstream media, due to their length, they’re always not seen as a content that could be commercialised. But why commercialise it? The question is why certain creations and contents when cannot be marketed to the mass for profits are always left struggling in search for a space to connect with the audiences?

We believe there are audiences who are searching for quality local films that are produced and created by local talents. We do have quite a number of Malaysian filmmakers who have won local and international awards, but they are rarely known or heard of, and in this project we have three directors, – Leroy Low, Edmund Yeo and Ng Ken Kin. The trio will direct three horror short film between 10 – 15 minutes each.

With your support, we hope we can complete this project and continue this series annually during the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival to introduce new filmmakers to the audiences and the film industry. We will build a platform for local short films, so that in future audiences will have a dedicated place to go to when they want to watch local independent short films.

DISTRIBUTION & SCREENINGS

We’ll organise a premiere event one week before the release for the cast, production members, friends from the industry, media and backers who contribute as an Executive Producer. The short films will be release on YouTube in August in conjunction with the Hungry Ghost Festival.

And we will organise screening sessions in various colleges and film clubs upon request to promote the films with the directors and the casts (upon availability) to the audiences. Discussions and sharing sessions will also be conducted.

I MISS U 2 by Leroy Low

Rui Hui is a 30 years old, single man. Even though he had left school for many years, but he still couldn’t forget two of the girls that he only met once in that year. Back then, the 13–year–old Rui Hui arrived at school early because his father had to work. The bleary-eyed Rui Hui met two girls that shined before him, and decided to help both of them solve their problem. Little did they know, the three of them then experienced a supernatural phenomenon that could not be explained...

FLOATING SUN by Edmund Yeo

The novelist, Fiona Lim, is writing a true story of a teenage girl who drowned in a river many years ago. And gradually, a chain of strange events begins to happen to her and her young daughter in the apartment.Adding to her confusion is the constant visions that she has of a drowned corpse... Fiona's world becomes increasingly nightmarish and surreal.

HORROR MISSION by Ng Ken Kin

A film crew is shooting a horror film in the suburb when suddenly the actress playing the ghost is possessed by a spirit. The film crew doesn't know what to do and decide to send the actress back to the city for help. A production manager and an intern are assigned for this horror mission. Along the journey the possessed actress suddenly begins to behave creepily, will they make it back to the city?

提案

多年前，我曾夢想著要擁有一家小型的劇場或電影院。有很多好電影或短片因為沒有涉及商業運作，所以沒有太多機會曝光。如果能藉由這家小小劇場或電影院，讓觀眾有機會觀賞馬來西亞的好電影或短片，將作品、電影人和觀眾連結起來，那有多好啊。

擁有小型電影院的夢想後來當然沒有成功。無論財力物力，小型電影院可不是我們負擔得起的。但是夢想並沒有因此消失。網路力量讓我看見一個可以努力的方向，因為我們有了自己的網路電影院，一個人人都可以看得到的電影院，那就是YouTube。

我們一直相信，有一群觀眾一直在尋找著馬來西亞製作的優質電影。而馬來西亞也確實有一群曾經贏得國內外電影大獎的實力派導演。對我們而言，透過網路播放是一個可以讓優質導演和觀眾接觸的最佳機會。這確實是很大的鼓舞。

除了播放電影的空間，我們也提供一個好平台，讓新一代導演在這個保守的商業競爭大環境裡一展功力。試著想想，我們身邊這些努力不懈的電影工作者，他們可以透過什麼方式得到支援、接觸觀眾呢？短片的出路尤其少得可憐。這個平台讓新一代導演以自己的方式訴說自己的故事，同時讓大馬電影人互相學習。從技術、資金到宣傳，大家一起成長並讓更多人參與。

這也是我們第一次向大家介紹三位年輕導演，他們正在拍攝三部和華人盂蘭節有關的鬼故事。每一部鬼故事長約10至15分鐘，今年5月開拍、8月全球網路首播。我們也會率領一眾導演和演員到各大專院校和各地場合主辦電影分享會，與觀眾面對面討論獨立電影心得。

我們需要一筆營運資金為這個獨立電影平台長期籌措電影製作、培育新人的經費。這也是大馬電影人可以聚集交流、接觸觀眾的平台。有了閣下的支持，我們希望可以每年推介新導演和觀眾見面，將本地電影推動到國內外。

日本、泰國和韓國的鬼故事享譽全球，現在該是大馬鬼片發揮的時候了吧？
