In partnership with the Lions Club of Labuan Mandarin, we successfully ran a crowdfunding campaign to benefit SK Pekan Satu, Labuan, over a month. Our campaign, led by Dr Suzillah Binti Sidek, received substantial assistance from people and organizations, allowing us to meet 70% of our fundraising goal of RM3500.00. We communicated with prospective contributors and described the purpose of our campaign using different promotional strategies such as phone calls, social media platforms such as WhatsApp, and email outreach. In addition, to overcome the familiarity gap among Malaysian internet users, we prepared a video lesson to help supporters make contributions using the MyStartr platform. In addition, we provided rewards such as thank-you videos, cards, and digital art photos to promote public contributions. We also emphasized the therapeutic garden's influence on SK Pekan Satu's pupils with special needs, emphasizing the advantages it would give in terms of sensory stimulation and enhanced learning conditions.
Besides, managing the crowdfunding process in a restricted timeline, predicting the cost of project fulfilment, and obtaining the target number of pledges were all hurdles for our team during the crowdfunding campaign. However, we overcome these challenges via meticulous planning, negotiating with suppliers and the school, and contacting companies and organizations for extra assistance. Lastly, we successfully completed the project with the money collected, which was RM2465.00. Although it only reached 70% of our total fund target, which is RM3500.00, our team have discussed the budgeting for the crowdfunding campaign, and we have proposed a new budget for the whole project. In the end, we still completed the three mini projects, including building a therapeutic garden and corridor repair, buying umbrellas to attach with the table under the sun and providing food supplies for them. We have completed the three mini projects by 7 July 2023.
Our efforts were intended to establish a conducive and exciting atmosphere for SK Pekan Satu Labuan's special needs kids. Therefore, we are proud of our team members' collaboration, passion, and devotion and thankful for the community's support and contributions. The project's completion would surely improve the kids' well-being and learning environment at SK Pekan Satu.
