Mental illness is a serious phenomenon in our society. Many in the society face enormous pressures, depression and desperation. These have led those unfortunates into psychotic issues. Worse, most are innocent, unaware or ignorant. We want to highlight these issues through this awesome play, and to raise awareness out of it. In additional, we shall be having an educational exhibition at the front house.
“Dark Moon” tells the stories of 2 adults who suffer from psychiatric illnesses due to lust, desire and pressures in their life. The play will be directed by Amelia Tan, notable director and actress in this industry. And the actors are talented students from University of Malaya. The play will be held for 2 nights on the 18th and 19th of May 2013, 7:30pm to 10pm at the Experimental Theater of University Malaya.
Our production needs various supports from corporation, personnel and organization to make it happen. Each of your support is vital and will be helpful for us in executing this project at different stages leading up to the performance.
DARK MOON
This is a story (mainly monologue) involving 2 main characters which are entwined through destiny, desire and destruction. It tells the story of the deep desire of human that lead to psychological malediction in this modern society where the characters will reveal their past, their thoughts, their motives, their fate and their guilt. The first character is an adult woman who suffers from schizophrenia. The second character is an adult male psychopath. Their characters portray the real-life situation.
This production aims to create a public awareness onto the social issue and cause of the mental illnesses arose in the modern-day society. It will highlight how a person is slowly corrupted and devoured by its inner-demon through all different circumstance and influence in life. Even a small matter in a person’s childhood can bring a big impact and hence change the life and mind of an innocent child into what we call ‘freak’ today. But the most important reason of being “fallen” or lose one’s sanity is that we let ourselves sunk into the deadly whirlpool of desire, and let our desire torn our life and rational apart, making us an unthinkable monster.
Synopsis
A civil servant kidnapped a prominent lady from an upper-class family.
His motives are not for money or her life.
And what she craved is more than mere life and money.
They are not public figures nor are they heroes in real life.
They are just laymen seeking for justice, freedom and dignity.
“If the unfortunate is to be sacrificed, why should we allow the fortunate to live?”
