Director's Statement

Dampak Retribusi has been under my vision for years—carefully crafted and developed to establish a strong foundation for a feature film.

Through this Proof of Concept, I want to introduce audiences to a dark, gritty, yet vibrant world—one where the atmosphere, characters, and visual identity become part of the attraction.

While the short film only explores a fraction of Dampak’s world, it serves as a doorway into something much larger. The POC establishes the tone, visual language, and foundation that can be expanded into a feature film.

At its core, this concept aims to showcase a distinctive action style and cinematic approach, while proving that its characters, conflicts, and world have the depth and potential to carry a feature.

This is not just a short film. It is the first glimpse of a much bigger world.

Synopsis

Mikela, Kamarul, and Jerat are three friends raised like siblings and trained under Paklong, a feared crime lord. After years of doing his dirty work, Mikela and Kamarul decide to escape their criminal life, tearing the trio apart.

When Kamarul is presumed dead and Mikela is blamed for his murder, she discovers the truth: Kamarul faked his death and framed her to escape with stolen money.

Now hunted by Paklong and betrayed by the brother she trusted, Mikela has 42 hours to find Kamarul and bring him back.

For Mikela, this is more than revenge - It is retribution.

Character Introductions

MIKELA

Mikela is one of Paklong’s most capable enforcers—trained from a young age alongside Kamarul and Jerat. Tough, disciplined, and fiercely loyal, she has spent most of her life believing that the three of them are family.

But after years in the criminal world, Mikela begins to question the life she has built. She sees an opportunity to walk away with Kamarul and start again. When Kamarul is believed dead and Mikela is blamed for his murder, everything she believes in collapses.

Betrayed by the person she trusted most, Mikela is forced back into the world she tried to escape. 

KAMARUL

Kamarul is the most unpredictable of the three. Raised alongside Mikela and Jerat under Paklong, he grew into a skilled and intelligent enforcer who knows exactly how to survive in the criminal world.

Unlike Mikela, Kamarul has never truly believed in loyalty. To him, survival comes first.

When the opportunity to escape with Paklong’s stolen money presents itself, Kamarul creates the perfect deception—his own death. By framing Mikela, he turns the people closest to him against each other while giving himself a chance to disappear.

MASTER HITMAN

The Master Hitman is a highly disciplined and methodical assassin, feared not because he is loud, but because he never fails to finish what he starts.

He does not negotiate.

He does not hesitate.

He does not miss.

With Mikela and Kamarul marked for death, he becomes the ticking clock behind their conflict—an unstoppable force closing in while Mikela races to uncover the truth.

For him, it isn't personal. It's simply the job.
