Project Description

Malaysians waste 15,000 tonnes of food daily including 3,000 tonnes that is still fit for consumption and should not be discarded. Citing statistics from solid waste and public cleansing management service operator, SW Corporation, most of the food wasted were food that were untouched and still edible. Clean Our Plate Johor aims to increase awareness, change attitude and initiate easy & obvious actions of youth towards reducing preventable food waste & fully utilizing food waste for them to influence their peers and their households.

International and local volunteers will involve in Clean Our Plate Johor project for six weeks. Throughout the six weeks, they will conduct a series of activities in Johor.

1. School  Workshop

Volunteers spread the awareness of food waste issue to the school students through school workshop in Johor. In the school workshop, students will learn to compost food waste in the easy way which can be applied in their household. The schools involved in Clean Our Plate 6.0 are SMK Mutiara Rini 2, SMK Taman Universiti 2, SMK Taman Sutera, SMK Sri Pulai Perdana and SMK Kangkar Pulai.

2. Physical booth

Volunteers set up physical booth to spread the food waste issue awareness to public. 

3. Volunteering at Kechara Soup Kitchen

International and local volunteers are volunteering at Kechara Soup KItchen. Volunteers distribute and donate food to the homeless in and around Johor Bahru City Square. 

4. Volunteering at Organic Farm

International and local volunteers are volunteering at volunteering farm for example All Natural Concept Farm, Tanah Sutera Farm. These organic farms are composting food waste into organic fertilizer.

5. Award Night for Video Designing Competition

We organized video designing competition about food waste issue for secondary school. There will have a award night to recognized the effort of students.

6. Clean Our Plate Challenge

Clean Our Plate Challenge is a challenge to spread the awareness towards food waste online for example Facebook and Instagram. This challenge encourages nominated participants to snap their plate before and after eating and post it on Facebook and then nominating others to do the same.

In AIESEC, we provide exchange programs in terms of volunteering, creating a positive impact through social projects. Clean Our Plate 6.0 Johor is organized by AIESEC in Johor Bahru.

Clean Our Plate 6.0 Johor organizing team is ready to create bigger impact in Malaysia. In the past two years, we are trying to make an impact to the society. We engage different schools and NGOs, set up booth in public area and utilize online platform to spread the awareness. We wish to see that everyone in Malaysia aware about food waste issue. We wish to see that everyone in Malaysia appreciate the food that we have. We wish to see that everyone in Malaysia are trying to solve this problem by making the first move.
