Cahaya Learning Center is an Alternative Education Program involving stateless children including undocumented communities in general. This program aims to raise funds for the Cahaya Learning Center through crowdfunding campaigns to develop community spaces for this purpose as well as welfare work and community development in Sandakan. Additionally, the program emphasizes the skills in learning to sew. The sewing class is a long-term module involving the process of learning, creating products and marketing community products for educational and commercial purposes, namely generating a community economy through the skills industry and creative arts such as the production of high value sewing products.
Our Objectives:
1. To create opportunities for the community to produce handicrafts and works related to their culture and community.
2. To help the local community’s economy through the production of products.
3. To develop an independent community that is able to manage socioeconomic challenges and constraints.
4. To create a more practical and concrete module for the undocumented community in Sabah (This module can be used by
Pusat Pembelajaran Alternatif available throughout Sabah).
5. To transfer knowledge of crowdfunding to the NGO (Cahaya Society) and the communities.

Risk analysis that might be encountered through this crowdfunding campaign is we do not achieve the funding goal that had been specified. This would lead to lacking fund and obstruct the project due to only 1 quantity needed for a sewing table and a sewing machine. Next, we might encounter excess fund that cause unproductive usage of accumulated funds. The excess fund, on the other hand can be used to enhance the administration and facilities of the organization, as well as to pay for monthly utilities such as electricity and water bills.
One of the challenges that we are facing is the association located in Sandakan, Sabah which is quite far from Labuan Federal Territory. Next, the status of stateless community might affect
donor’s intention. The society might think the stateless are not entitled and should have no rights to education, social, and economy.
This project is an assignment of the students in University Malaysia Sabah, Labuan Faculty of International Finance, and may not be suitable for everyone.
