We are the students who studying Media Studies in New Era College. Public Relations Campaign Planning is a practical subject for students to learn how to apply their Public Relations skills that they had learned from theories. Previously, students were limited themselves in schoolyard for organizing any events, yet, WE —— a total 52 of students and 1 teacher chose to organize a community service campaign which is walking into Sungai Lima (a fishing village) and going to hold a two days exhibition during this August semester. We intend to use our knowledge, skills, and resources to contribute to society as fulfill the concept of “Get from Community, Contribute to Society”. With the most sincere and honest heart, we are walking into this beautiful Terre, Sungai Lima, and collect interesting, valuable stories. We hope that this will be a gift which we contribute to the villagers. Sungai Lima, it is not a bustling and prosperous island like Pulau Ketam, but a fishing village as many household are doing fishery for living. Except for the colourful murals art, tangy shrimp flavour, the unique ships, there are many unknown wonderful and interesting stories here. The old occupations, old histories, old cultures, and old memories will be no longer exists, as it will be replaced with technology developed; people leave and will not be retained, gradually, the precious history and culture are slowly not being taken seriously. Besides, Sungai Lima’s population is decreasing year by year with outflowing of the young generation. The young generations choose to leave their hometown and pursuit their dreams and work in cities. Some of them even are already “forgot” where are they from and the culture from their home. The theme of our campaign is “I AM HERE, SUNGAI LIMA”. As Sungai Lima is a Hokkien village, thus, we intend to add on Hokkien local accent into our theme. In mandarin, our theme is “这里五条港”; in Hokkien we called “Ji Dao Gor Tiao Gang”. It means that we are going to discover the beautifulness of Sungai Lima also bring out a message: “Sungai Lima is our home” among local villagers. During these four months, we will collect the local interesting, wonderful, memorable, cultural and historical stories and present it in words, photos and up to about 20 minutes documentary form. We will hold a two days exhibition (6th and 7th November 2015) at Sungai Lima, all the children and residents will be invited for joining our painting activities, family games, sharing sections, heritage walk and enjoy the refreshments, photo and documentary exhibition and so on. Of course, the souvenirs and special gifts will be prepared. In this two days exhibition, we will exhibit the old and classic photos and the village stories; also, we will prepare some games in order to build a good relationship with local villagers. We hope that we can encourage more students and people to join our protection action of cultural preservation, also want to let them to understand and treasure the historical value of Sungai Lima through this event.
