ORIGIN Artistic director Boyz Chew Soon Heng consistently stands by the principle of "create, allow to sink in and precipitate, then recreate". This time, using “The Era” (this 2009 composition was co-created together with former drummers of Tsun Jin High School) as a blueprint, two drumming camps were held under the heading “Journey to D'March” for secondary schools and universities, which led to the idea of a "classics" concert. Through this platform, we hope that each drumming group can re-organize their past works of classics or (more matured) all-new creations, gradually bring up the artistic value of these pieces, in an effort of preservation and continuity, all while reaching more audiences. CONCEPT In 1988, musician Mr Tan Hooi Song and poet Mr Tan Chai Puan conceived the 24 Festive Drums cultural performance. Since then, drumming groups began to form in schools, nurturing and refining this newly emerged culture through their continual efforts of creating and composing. 28 years later, in this high-speed developing era, how many of these compositions can stand the test of time? In this multicultural era, what do the drummers leave behind as classics? Through "Dong Dak Beat" Drumming Concert, compositions are discovered and classics are recollected. Walk into the theatre and discover for yourself the power of the 24 Festive Drums--accumulated over the years. What could be its appeal, its charm? The 9th Nyoba Kan International Butoh Festival 2016 pulls together practitioners of different backgrounds from theatre, dance, music, design, installation art, to video art. An art form blends into another to transform its potential and to accelerate its capacity to create meaning, experience, and idea. Dancers, performers, musicians, designers, and artists work together to explore the process and collaboration of different disciplines. By bridging multiple art forms, practitioners interact with and respond to each other’s social space to create a multi sensory festival. As the world celebrates Shakespeare’s 400th Anniversary, Nyoba Kan has conceived a production based on William Shakespeare’s Richard III — with a Butoh injection and interpretation. As passionate Butoh practitioners in Malaysia, we have a strong desire to communicate and interact with Japanese Butoh Artistes; to work, to collaborate and learn from one another, in an effort to achieve the best possible outcome in our work. Thus this year we have invited a young, up and coming Butoh artiste Nobuyoshi Asai to work with us in this production " The Plots of a Tyrant" , together with local and German composer, Yii Kah Hoe & Max Riefer. We hope to cultivate a platform of exchange where it can also provides an opportunity for Japanese Butoh Artistes to learn about ‘Butoh in Malaysia’.

[ THE CONCERT | 演唱会 ] From the year La Voce Choir founded in 2006 until today, we’ve came a long way to our 10th anniversary. To mark the 10th anniversary of La Voce Choir, and also to show gratitude towards everyone who gave us support over the past decade. This 2016, the choir celebrates its 10th anniversary with a series of activities throughout the year. “A Decade in Harmony” will serve as the grand finale concert to our 10th Anniversary Programme lineup. “A Decade in Harmony”, our 10th Anniversary celebratory concert to commemorate our 10 years of friendship and growth in music, will definitely bring the audiences to a different artistic conception. In this concert, La Voce Choir will be performing well-loved choral compositions of famous composers around the world such as Morten Lauridsen, Edward Elgar and Ola Gjeilo. The highlight of this concert will be the premiere of a musical drama “When the Sea Murmured”. This musical is specially commissioned for La Voce Choir’s 10th anniversary, will be directed by one of our choir members, local theatre actor and director Tan Li Yang and features music composed by award-winning Malaysian composer Chow Jun Yi, whom the Choir has collaborated with on many occasions. Jun Yi’s talent in adapting percussive elements of traditional Malay folksongs into choral arrangements allows for a wonderfully engaging and eye-catching folk song performance with music and movements that at the same time, manages to pay homage to Malaysian music and culture. La Voce Choir also wanted to achieve a balance between classical and folksong, without losing the basis of choir singing to bring out more close to life songs to the audiences, hence the idea of using Malay folksong as main material in our musical, which will bond to give the audience a different music feast. [ SHOW DETAILS | 演出详情 ] | DATE &TIME 日期 时间 | 20th August 2016 - 8.00PM | VENUE 地点 | Stadium Chin Woo, 雪隆精武体育会 Jalan Hang Jebat, 50150 Kuala Lumpur.

Our crowdfunding project is to provide a genuine meal for the homeless around Klang. On the 13th of January, the team will be heading to Klang to distribute foods and some daily items to about 100 homeless individuals in that area. This event will be done in collaboration with the Leo Club of Sungai Buloh. To do this, your help is much needed. All the funds will go into purchasing foods and basic needs for the homeless community. The more support we receive, the more love we can provide. The fund target is to provide 100 pax of meals, with every meal priced at RM 4, which includes rice, vegetables and a serving of meat from a trusted caterer. World hunger statistic suggested that almost 1 billion people in the world do not have enough food in their daily life. The surprising fact is that vast majority of hungry people lives in developing countries, where almost 12.9 percent of the population is undernourished. As the more fortunate bunch of the population, it’s important that we show empathy to the less fortunate. We figured that even if we can’t wholly change their circumstances, we can at least start by providing them a simple meal, to make their day at least a little better, also to let them know that they are people who care about their well-being. Our team, consisting of 4 students from Taylor’s University, believe that it’s our assignment to make a difference in society, even if it’s by a small scale of contribution.
